The U.S. Green Development Council (USGBC) created LEED, which offers a framework for planning, developing, managing, and preserving green buildings. The primary goal of the LEED Rating System is to encourage the building industry to embrace sustainable practices. It was first presented as a voluntary program in 1998 to promote sustainable building design and construction methods. It has developed throughout time to incorporate multiple rating systems for different kinds of buildings and is now the most extensively used green building rating system globally.
